Birds

We see them gracefully glide overhead, swiftly dart in front of us, or sing songs from high in the tree. Birds are every where and you'll be amazed at just where you'll see them.

 • This is what a Flamingo looks like when it's eating. Beak buried in the water much like an ostrich buries its head in the sand. The clear water perfectly shows the pink feet and matching pink beak.

 • It was quite noisy to be sleeping, but this one was attempting to rest or just be still for a bit.

 • You'll see Great Egrets standing looking at the water, they're white whispy feathers blowing with every breeze. When they take flight, you understand their name. Beautiful....

 • I have lots of pelican pictures, but this is one of my favorites because it shows the grace and freedom of flight over the open water.

 • A couple of Obsidian Ground Hornbills practicing grooming. Hard to tell in the picture, but when they stand up, they're big birds.
The deep blue and red on their head/throat stands out against their black plumage.

 • What a plume! Guess if I had that much hair, I'd flaunt it too.

 • An up close view of the Rosiet Spoonbill. Named for the shape of it's bill and color and interesting to watch feed. It uses that spatula sized bill to dig through the water. A lot of local spoonbills are white so when one of these colorful ones fly over, it's very obvious.

 • Why did the Limpkin cross the road? To get to her babies, of course...
We looked over an embankment to our surpise was Mom and two fluffy babies. She quickly herded them into the culvert for protection.

Not sure if they were supposed to stay or what, but they promptly walked through and emerged on the other side of the road. Mom calmly but intently made her way across and back down to her babies.

 • Look closely at the beak... it looks like it has a zipper holding it together. Fully enlarged it's like a little strainer to filter out large objects. Just think if you had this you could down smoothies without worrying about pieces of ice.

 • Check out this dragon fly's horizontal bright blue mouth. It looks more like an robot than something natural. It kept checking me out as if it were "scanning". I guess I've watched too many sci-fi movies.

 • I could hear the owls calling to each other through the trees. I silently, well as quietly as I could, walked the trail and found this one sitting in the tree. When you compare it to the tree trunk, you see just how large it is.
It's amazing these large, majestic birds fly so silently.

 • Wouldn't you love to just fly free like this? I would, course I need to be able to leave the ground first.
